20 Hilarious ‘PizzaCake’ Comics Guaranteed to Make You Smile (New Updates)

Ellen Woodbury is back with more of her hilarious PizzaCake Comics, a series known for its witty dialogue unexpected twists, and relatable momentsall served with plenty of humor. As Ellen has shared before, I love making people laugh and sharing funny, weird situations. The drawing part is fun but itโ€™s incredibly rewarding to entertain others. With that in mind, letโ€™s check out her latest batch of comics. We spoke with Ellen again to learn more about her creative process as a cartoonist. One of the first questions we had was about the strangest place or situation that had ever inspired one of her comic ideas. Ellen shared this with us. I get ideas from all kinds of places like at the doctor’s office, while grocery shopping, picking my kids up from school, or even on the toilet. Some people just can’t turn off their observations and internal commentary and for me itโ€™s been pretty helpful.

When asked about her least favorite comic trope or clichรฉ that she avoids, the cartoonist shared: Thatโ€™s a tough question. I donโ€™t specifically avoid any tropes but I try not to revisit themes that Iโ€™ve seen a lot from other artists. I prefer to keep my content mostly free of swear words, and I donโ€™t stick to just one topic or theme so itโ€™s pretty easy for me to steer clear of doing the same things over and over.

Next, Woodbury shared her perspective on the impact of AI-generated art and storytelling discussing its potential influence on the future of comic creation. Iโ€™m not sure AI will significantly affect comics and storytelling because most people prefer content that comes from humans. Itโ€™s an honest form of expression and a way to connect with others. A well-crafted comic with a consistent art style can convey a lot of emotion and create a connection over shared topics. Thereโ€™s something lacking in content produced by AI it misses that intentionality and cohesive design. Even if AI art becomes indistinguishable from human-created work, it will still have that uncanny valley feeling, which many find unsettling.

Finally, we asked Ellen which part of the comic creation process she believes is the most underrated. She shared It might sound a little odd, but I absolutely love the writing process coming up with a good idea and developing it. I find it exciting and fun, while I know a lot of other artists can get frustrated with writing or dealing with writer’s block. For me, you canโ€™t force it. The ideas need to come naturally because it creates a more immersive experience for the readers. I think using my voice and sharing my thoughts is a way to connect with people, but Iโ€™m also a pretty opinionated loud-mouth, so maybe thatโ€™s just me, ha ha.
