Mike Greaney gave us a humorous peek into his creative process when asked about his pre-comic rituals. Like all cartoonists, I first take a long pilgrimage to the throne of the LORD OF COMICS and present him with my idea. If he deems the idea worthy, I am allowed to create the comic and post it online. If he deems it unworthy, I must spend a week in the chamber of suffering. Weird system, I know, but it’s important to follow tradition Greaney said with a laugh. This quirky and lighthearted approach to creativity is a hallmark of his unique style. His comics known for their surprising twists and playful humor reflect the fun and unpredictability that Mike Greaney embraces in his work.

Mark Greaney, the author behind the Gray Man series holds that humor is a core aspect of human nature and a crucial element of storytelling. In a recent discussion, he emphasized the importance of incorporating humor into narratives. I believe that all storytelling should have some levity Greaney shared. It’s essential to know when to let a moment be sincere and when to undercut it with a joke. Finding that balance is really important. For Greaney, humor isn’t just a tool for making stories more enjoyable it’s a way to create emotional depth. By understanding when to introduce lightheartedness and when to keep things serious, he crafts stories that resonate with readers on multiple levels. The ability to mix humor with genuine moments is something that has become a hallmark of his writing style.

We recently asked a prominent comic artist how his approach to sharing his work online has evolved and whether he sees social media as an essential tool for comic artists today. Social media sucks, but it has been helpful in developing my career so I’m not really sure how to answer that the artist confessed. If I had the option tomorrow to press a big button and turn off all social media on Earth I’d probably do it. But I’d be sad that I’d have to use my phone to actually call people again. His honest answer sheds light on the mixed feelings many artists have toward social media recognizing both its career advantages and its frustrations.
