Caroline Rodriguez Velasco, the artist behind Strraycat opened up about her journey into creating comics and the inspiration behind her work. I initially started by drawing about very serious topics she shared. But eventually, I realized that when people describe me they always mention funny or weird. I noticed that people laughed a lot at my jokes and enjoyed hearing me when I was just being my quirky self. That’s when I began to embrace the more comical side of me, seeing the humor in everything and not taking life so seriously. Short comics became an easy way for me to share that perspective with others.

We were curious about how Caroline Rodriguez Velasco finds inspiration for her Strraycat strips so we asked the artist where her ideas come from. She shared, I come up with new strip ideas by simply observing my everyday life. It can be anything like when something awkward happens to me and I feel embarrassed. I try to look at it from a different perspective one where I can laugh at how awkward I was. Also when I see people being rude or just plain stupid, instead of getting upset, I imagine them as a goofy little character. It makes me laugh and I want to draw it.
