Kenneth Larsen, the artist behind the popular comic Bestie grew up in Trondheim, Norway, where he spent countless hours immersed in his passion for drawing. While his father attempted to steer him toward sports like soccer (an effort that didnโt quite succeed, as he humorously notes in his comics), Kenneth found his true calling in comics. He loved reading Donald Duck a Scandinavian favorite in the ’90s, as well as iconic newspaper strips like Ernie, Calvin and Hobbes, and Garfield.
Before taking the plunge into his dream of becoming a full-time comic artist Kenneth studied graphic design and spent several years working in advertising in Stockholm Sweden. Today, he calls Stockholm home although his freelance career allows him to travel frequently and continue creating. Through it all heโs remained close to his best friend Marthe with whom heโs shared nearly four decades of hilarious and chaotic adventures. Their friendship serves as the inspiration for Bestie which has gained a massive following and even expanded into a published book.

Kenneth Larsenโs Bestie comics, which have been published for over eight years, have undergone significant evolution since their inception. What started as a fun and lighthearted way to poke fun at his childhood friend Marthe has expanded to include more of Kenneth’s friends and family. While many of the stories still stem from real-life experiences the characters and situations have developed a life of their own.
Larsen prides himself on creating a humorous comic strip that showcases the dynamics of adult friendships and relatable everyday situations. His art style is often described as vibrant and full of life, which he considers a great compliment. One of the more personal storylines featured in Bestie is Kennethโs own coming-out journey, which he approached with humor making it both light-hearted and positive. Reflecting on his younger years, he wishes he had seen more of this kind of representation in the comics he read growing up. Today, he feels proud to contribute such an authentic and positive portrayal of being gay in the world of comic strips.

Kenneth Larsen, the creator of Bestie, has recently launched his comic collection Bestie. Friends Without Benefits on Amazon, much to the delight of his fans. This book brings together a series of his comic strips in chronological order, plus exclusive bonus pages. The artist expressed his excitement about the project, which had been in development for years.
One of the significant challenges Kenneth faced while bringing his comic to life was figuring out the logistics of shipping and production, especially given his location in Scandinavia. After careful planning, he discovered that print-on-demand services were the perfect solution. Not only did it make the project cost-effective, but it also allowed him to offer high-quality prints without compromising on his vision. With the first volume now available, Kenneth is already hard at work on the next installment, promising more of the same hilarious and relatable humor that fans love.
