We reached out to Erik, the creator of the Bonus Context comic series, to learn more about his creative process. He explained that his comics often explore universal themes, with animals serving as the observers of human behavior. I usually make comics about things that are universal for humans and have animals watch and comment on them Erik shared. So, the most common theme is animals observing humans doing things that seem pretty silly when you step back and look at it from the outside. Through this approach Erik captures the humor and absurdity in everyday life, offering readers a new perspective on the world around them. His animals provide a refreshing commentary on the quirks of human nature turning ordinary moments into thought-provoking reflections.

When asked how he comes up with ideas for his comic strips the artist shared. Even after creating hundreds of comics, it’s still not easy. I often have to push myself to come up with ideas. Sometimes, I’ll search for concepts like freedom or love on Google, hoping to find a quote that will inspire me. But most of the time it’s about treating it like a task that needs hard work and dedication.
While the creative process may be a struggle at times the artist’s persistence in tackling these themes with his unique perspective continues to resonate with his audience. His commitment to producing thoughtful and engaging comics shines through despite the challenges.
