Meet Anežka Židkova, a talented Czech illustrator who’s capturing the internet’s attention with her hilarious and quirky comic series. Known for her clever characters, witty dialogue, and surprising endings, her comics are sure to give you a good laugh. We caught up with Anežka to get an inside look at what inspires her creative process. She told us, I started making comics in my last year of high school while preparing my portfolio for college. Stories were always coming to me, and drawing was something I loved. Comics provide the perfect way to combine storytelling with visuals. As for my humor, I never consciously worked on developing it it just came naturally from my upbringing. My family is really funny, especially my dad. I think Eastern Europeans, in general, have a great sense of humor. However, I’d say my humor is a little gentler compared to the typical Eastern European style. I love sharing my thoughts through humor because when it’s done well, it’s the most effective way to communicate. With her unique perspective and natural comedic flair, Anežka continues to captivate her growing audience. When asked to describe her creative process, Anežka shared, “I just live my life and observe what’s happening around me. I’m a naturally curious person, and I love learning. The best ideas come to me when I feel strongly about a topic or event. Once I decide on what I want to ‘talk’ about, I break it up into three panels two panels for the exposition and the final one for the twist. I also focus on choosing an environment and character design that fits the narrative. The small format of a comic strip allows me to experiment with visual variety and create new characters and worlds, which really satisfies my creative curiosity. Anežka’s process is a balance of keen observation playful experimentation and a strong sense of storytelling. This mix allows her to craft comics that are both visually engaging and full of surprising twists.

Anežka Židkova also opened up about how she comes up with ideas for her new comic strips. I really dislike clichés and believe that any true artist should constantly challenge existing ideas and explore fresh perspectives on everything around us. It’s important to find new combinations or interpretations of what we already know. I try my best to live by this philosophy and fulfill my role as an artist. Since our beliefs shape our actions, it’s these beliefs that guide me in crafting twists and punchlines for my comics. Her approach to creativity is rooted in a desire to break away from the expected, pushing her to craft comics that surprise and delight.

Anežka Židkova shared with us how she connects with her audience on social media and incorporates their feedback into her work. I treat my Instagram followers as kindly as possible and I’m very grateful for their support. The feedback I receive usually comes in the form of comments, which I try to process and use in my future work. Recently, several followers have asked me to create a comic about seals, so I’m currently working on that. In addition to her Instagram presence, Židkova also contributes a comic strip called F POHODe to the Metro newspaper in the Czech Republic. However, she noted, Unfortunately, the nature of this format doesn’t allow for as much interaction, even though it makes up the majority of my audience. It’s clear that Anežka values her community and actively listens to their suggestions, making her comics even more engaging and interactive.
